Considering 3DS for Holiday, Future Models ?

I'm going on holiday in the summer and I need something to keep me occupied and I was wondering if I should buy the 3DS for the trip, now my dilema is I heard the battery life is terrible ranging from 3-8 hours, and that might result in them making a new model so should I wait or what ?
